Mac News and Rumors for April 7th

In this week’s report, we have an update for iTunes and other Apple news mostly about the iPad launch.  On top of that, there’s news about Apple potentially joining the Verizon network.  We’ll wrap up with a new promotion for cash game players on PartyPoker.

Apple Releases iTunes 9.1

Apple released iTunes 9.1 last week and it’s available via the company’s download page or through Software Update in Mac OS X.  The update brings several enhancements such as support for the iPad and allowing eBooks and Genius Mixes content.  Other improvements include the ability to organize and sync your favorite music, movies, television shows, and more.

Apple’s App Store Available through Facebook

Apple recently rolled out a reworked App Store page within Facebook offering full browsing and search access.  Clicking the “Get App” button will link a user straight to the iTunes Preview or iTunes page for that item.  From there, you can purchase the app for use on your Apple device.  The new layout also has a “Share” function that lets you post links to items on walls.

iPad SlingPlayer Coming Soon?

There are multiple reports that Sling Media, maker of the SlingBox, is planning to launch a high-resolution streaming television service for the iPad.  There have also been efforts to expand the SlingPlayer Mobile app on the iPhone, which was approved last May, but is limited to streaming only via WiFi due to AT&T restrictions.

New Verizon iPhone

The Wall Street Journal ran an article that has been under fire from the tech industry and is being called too vague to be considered serious.  DaringFireball.com’s John Gruber said that he thinks the next iPhone will include an A4-family CPU, 960×640 double resolution display, second front-facing camera, and multi-tasking OS.  Meanwhile, the Journal is reporting that Apple is working on two new iPhone models that will be compatible with Verizon’s CDMA network.

PartyPoker Presents Online Cash Game Championships

There is a new promotion coming to PartyPoker for cash game players.  There is $250,000 to be won, divided into seven different levels.  At each level, players will need to play 400 hands in a day, with the most profitable players advancing towards the final level, which plays out on May 7th.  As you progress through the levels, cash prizes will be added and the stakes and the quality of the opponents will get harder.  The first stage kicks off from April 5th to 9th at the $0.50-$1 No Limit Hold’em cash tables.  Players must opt in before the end of Level 1 to take part in the promotion.
